Styling a Mantel for all Seasons

Many people struggle with the concept of how to group items on a fireplace mantel.  It's a good idea to have a flexible attitude on this subject!  Our advice is to have a core group of items that remain on the mantel, and then use seasonal items sparingly as you wish.

First of all, only use items that you love!

Make sure that the entire tableau is easy to remove and clean on a regular basis.  Most mantels need a good dusting to start with!

Use objects of varying height and texture.  It's nice to use a mixture of ceramics, candles and/or candlesticks and low candle holders, like votives and tealights.  We are not afraid to throw in some faux foliage!

Less is often more!
Here is where we started ::

This is what we did ::

We wanted to add some natural elements - the spiky silk plant adds interest and the pears add warmth. The client was trying to get away from the reds in the room and add more blue - so when we found the inky blue and white vases we had to buy them!

We liked gold candle holder cups because they brought out the gold from the frame which is the centerpiece of the room.
