We had an old frame that made the beautiful image inside seem washed out. We decided to give it a shot of color with an aged look. It was remarkably easy with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, in Aubusson Blue.
I used a pretty dry brush and dabbed it on at first, then I started to brush on, and almost immediately wipe it down with a dry paper towel. The intent was not to have full coverage, but to give it an aged look with the color. We worked first on the four sides on the interior of the frame, and it dried very quickly. Then we worked on the outside edges.
We then lightly sanded along the corners and the edges, just to take a bit of paint off the wood. And here's the result:
