Many years ago we had a couple of walls taken down to open up the house - especially the kitchen which was a long shoe-box shape. Doing this left the fireplace standing open in the middle of the house and totally exposed. I love the brick but have wanted to do some decorating on it too. Finally
we had some shelves installed. Here you can see the bookshelves installed on one wall - but also what the side looks like plain.
Here is the side with more shelving - really just picture ledges - so I can have some photos and art work up without taking up space. And because they are not on the wall I can move them around and switch them up when I want to! This gives you some flexibility for each season/holiday as well.
